The Next Step for the Authorities is to Resolve the Constitutional Court Issue in the National Assembly: ‘Zhoghovurd’
According to the ‘Zhoghovurd’ newspaper, after making a decision regarding Gagik Tsarukyan, the head of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), the authorities will proceed to address the issue of the Constitutional Court in the parliament. As is known, on May 13, Armenia's Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan appealed to the Venice Commission for a solution to the crisis surrounding the Constitutional Court.
And now, according to ‘Zhoghovurd’, a response from the Venice Commission has been received, and within approximately two weeks, a relevant draft regarding the Constitutional Court will be presented in parliament. The chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee, Ruben Rubinyan, stated that the authorities have developed one of the pathways to resolve the Constitutional Court crisis.
According to this option, judges of the Constitutional Court who have served for over 12 years will cease to hold office. In this case, the President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan will continue to remain a member of the court, while two judges, Grant Nazaryan and Felix Tokhoyan, will stop being members of the Constitutional Court, as they have served for over 12 years. In other words, following a vetting example, the authorities have decided to address the issue of the Constitutional Court in phases, and in the first phase, these two judges will say goodbye to their positions.
