Repeatedly Declared Opposition to Hrayr Tovmasyan's Candidacy, Now Decided to Approach Him: Simonian
I highly appreciate these two initiatives by the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). This was stated today by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, during a press briefing with journalists, referring to BHK's intent to first propose the establishment of an investigative committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the prevention of the coronavirus and the elimination of its consequences, and then to appeal to the Constitutional Court regarding the legality of decisions related to organizing gatherings during a state of emergency.
“If that committee is formed, we can also examine the rumors that are being spread by the groups close to the party you mentioned, claiming that the coronavirus does not exist, and that wearing masks is unnecessary at all. There are even MPs who do not wear masks. We need to investigate and understand whether this is being done intentionally to harm the security of the Republic of Armenia and to use this situation for political purposes, or whether these are merely rumors,” Simonian stated.
Regarding the appeal to the Constitutional Court, the Deputy Speaker expressed a positive view: “Ultimately, there needs to be a clarification of coordinates. In all cases related to the Constitutional Court, your mentioned colleagues have spoken about the fact that they agree that there is a problem with the Constitutional Court. They have repeatedly declared that they opposed Hrayr Tovmasyan’s candidacy, but now they have decided to approach the same Hrayr Tovmasyan to provide a solution. This will finalize the phase of clarifying the coordinates. I am somewhat uncertain that we will not have already provided a solution to the Constitutional Court issue before that, and this composition will examine it. I have doubts about that,” Simonian announced.
