Ombudsman's Statement on Impeding Media Operations, Amoyan and Arrested Individuals
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, has made a statement on his Facebook page, informing that since early morning, the Ombudsman's staff has been operating under an overloaded regime since Sunday.
“At this moment, I would like to clarify regarding three issues: 1. Issues related to the professional activities of journalists are under my direct attention. We will thoroughly examine the videos of the incidents with the police and based on the results of the investigation, we will determine the measures to be taken. We will also work individually with journalists. 2. I have spoken with wrestler Roman Amoyan today at my initiative. An independent procedure has been initiated regarding this matter. 3. At this moment, one team from my staff is working at one of the police departments based on the received report.
We have already issued an official statement from the Human Rights Defender's office regarding some of the work carried out today concerning the visits of 112 individuals to police departments in Yerevan and the regions.
P.S. I urge everyone once again to adhere to the preventive measures against the new coronavirus.
