I Have Not Committed Any Violations: Roman Amoyan Makes a Statement

Bronze medalist of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Greco-Roman wrestler Roman Amoyan has posted on his Facebook page:

“Due to numerous calls and inquiries, I would like to comment on what has happened: I have not committed any violations; on the contrary, I have tried to understand what law I have violated (everything is clearly visible in the video). As for the other side of the issue, my actions have no political undertones. I have simply come to stand beside the president of the National Olympic Committee, thanks to whom sports have developed in Armenia for many years, and I consider myself a part of Armenian sports.

Unlike today’s police, who carry out assignments and orders, I have upheld the flag of Armenia and the Republic of Armenia, the country whose geographical position is very hard to see on the globe. I am not interested in any comments written by trolls and self-loathing people; forgive me, I won’t lower myself, I simply have dignity and self-respect. I am not a transgender person, nor have I violated any moral values. I believe films will not be made about me; I do not promote perversion.

Finally, I would like to sincerely thank all those who supported me; this will not go unanswered. Never and at no time have I accepted offers to wrestle under the flag of another country, in order to hold high my and the Armenian nation's flag. But come and see that in the current situation in the country, this is not valued. Do not divide and antagonize the nation; do not separate people. Thank you!”
