Kyrgyzstan Prime Minister Resigns

Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister Mukhammedkaliy Abilgaziyev has resigned. This information was reported by RIA Novosti.

In mid-May, a scandal erupted in the country's parliament regarding the illegal sale of radio frequencies. According to lawmakers, 200 MHz radio frequencies were sold illegally to one of Kyrgyzstan's mobile operators, causing millions in damages to the state.

As part of the criminal case, former head of the state agency Natalia Chernogubova and several employees of the special services were arrested. On May 20, during a parliamentary meeting, lawmaker Janar Akayev suggested that the Prime Minister may have connections to this case.

“In today’s challenging circumstances, when the country is facing the threat of a coronavirus outbreak and is battling its economic repercussions, the government must work to stabilize and maintain the full trust of citizens. This uncertain situation hinders the government’s full operation. Considering all of this, I have decided to resign as Prime Minister,” stated the Prime Minister in his message.
