Demanding Special Treatment for Female Politicians Diminishes Their Role: Lena Nazaryan
If there is anything to say on this matter, please do so, but if not, there is no need to place female politicians under chivalrous or paternalistic protection and distort the real issues regarding women. This was written by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Lena Nazaryan, on her Facebook page.
“The subtle art of turning everything on its head encourages some individuals to defend female political party members in a chivalrous manner. They do not even notice that by demanding special treatment for female politicians, they are diminishing their role. Women also have the right to express their grievances. The question is what motivates them to block the streets—whether it is the private interests of their party sponsor-leader or the public interest. That is another matter. And, of course, the police should not and must not exceed their authority in either women’s or men’s cases; they should respect the right to bodily integrity. If you have something to say in this regard, please do so. If not, there is no need to place female politicians under chivalrous or paternalistic protection and distort the real issues regarding women,” she wrote.
