Such Unconstitutional Behavior is Hard to Imagine: Khajakyana

Such unconstitutional behavior, exhibited by the members of the 'My Step' faction in the council, is hard to imagine. This was stated today, June 12, by the head of the Yerevan Council's 'Lus' faction, Davit Khajakyan, on his Facebook page, referring to a proposal by 'My Step' faction member Eduard Avetisyan to amend the procedure for holding council meetings by changing the allotted time for asking questions and responding.

Khajakyan specifically noted, 'The council members (not the staff) are the ones who have introduced a change to the regulations that limits the ability of council members to ask questions of the staff. If previously council members had the opportunity to pose questions to the staff at each regular meeting, now that opportunity is restricted by half, down to just 4 times a year. This means that the majority of council members believe that issues concerning citizens should be raised less frequently in this format to avoid causing too much inconvenience to the staff.'

It should be reminded that the council is the highest body of local self-government in Yerevan, which oversees the activities of the mayor.
