Human rights defender Ruben Melikyan's arrest is illegal and indicates the government's fear and weakness. This was stated by Arthur Ghazinyan, founder of the 'One Armenia' party and lawyer, on his Facebook page.

He specifically wrote: 'The arrest of human rights defender Ruben Melikyan is illegal and shows the government's fearful and weak nature. The extension of the state of emergency has nothing to do with the pandemic, and its sole purpose is to limit the activities of the political opposition. Nikol Pashinyan has already lost his legitimacy, is completely exhausted, and will soon also lose power.'
