Andranik Gevorgyan Accused of Legalizing $1 Million Bribe Received by Son

In the ongoing criminal case investigated by the Special Investigative Service of Armenia, Andranik Gevorgyan has been charged under point 1 of part 3 of Article 190 of the Armenian Criminal Code. He is accused of a socially dangerous act of concealing and distorting the true nature and origin of the bribe amount received by his son, Armen Gevorgyan, who held the position of head of the Presidential Administration of Armenia, and legalizing a particularly large sum equivalent to 1,000,000 US dollars (309,000,000 AMD).

In the spring of 2008, with the assistance of a close associate, Armen Gevorgyan received the aforementioned substantial bribe. To conceal and distort the true nature and origin of the bribe, he ensured that the funds were transferred under the names of various legal entities, as well as to a bank account of a company operating abroad that he effectively owned. Then, as the executive director of that company, Andranik Gevorgyan aided in legalizing the property obtained through criminal means, managing the funds and investing them in the entrepreneurial activities conducted by the company, thereby distorting and concealing the true nature and origins of the criminally acquired bribe.

A preventive measure in the form of a non-leaving signature has been selected for Andranik Gevorgyan. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
