Gagik Tsarukyan's Legal Team Files Report of Criminal Offense
The leader of the Prosperous Armenia party, Gagik Tsarukyan, has had his legal team file a report of criminal offense with the Armenian Prosecutor General. This was confirmed by Tsarukyan's lawyer, Emin Khachatryan, in an interview with NEWS.am.
It is worth noting that there had been media coverage regarding a gang rape case involving Gagik Tsarukyan from years ago. When asked whether the publication of that case was illegal and who should be held accountable, Emin Khachatryan stated, “It is certain that someone should be held accountable, as Armenian legislation clearly stipulates that decisions and verdicts made in closed court sessions are not subject to publication; these are imperative requirements and contain the characteristics of Article 144 of the Armenian Criminal Code (illegal collection, retention, use, or dissemination of personal or family life information). Furthermore, those documents are not accessible to everyone. Essentially, we believe that the exposure of these documents is the result of a lapse, breach, or abuse of authority by some official, and we have requested that a criminal case be opened under the characteristics of Article 308 (abuse of official position).”
Khachatryan emphasized that if the case was published, then the 2001 decision by the Armenian Court of Cassation, which acquitted Gagik Tsarukyan, should also have been made public.
