Cancer Patients No Longer Need to Travel Abroad for PET/CT Services, Says Pashinyan

In the upcoming days, the healthcare system's fight against coronavirus will be reinforced by the addition of the Spitak Medical Center (100 beds), the Vedi Medical Center (100 beds), and a division of the Martuni Medical Center (35-40 beds). This was reported by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his Facebook page.

“Let me also remind you that approximately 2000 beds have already been operational for this issue. Another important fact is that for the first time today, patients admitted to the triage center operating on the basis of our new National Burn Center underwent computed tomography at the Radioisotope Production Center (known as the Cyclotron of the Physics Institute). By the way, about a month ago, during a government meeting, I inquired from the Minister of Health when the positron emission tomography (PET) scanner, which is very necessary for our cancer patients and has been installed at this center, would start operating. I want to inform you that the necessary equipment and materials for its final commissioning were imported to Armenia last week, and it will be fully operational next week after many years of inactivity. Our cancer patients will no longer have to travel abroad for PET/CT,” he wrote.
