Vardan Ghukasyan on Not Wearing a Mask at the Prosperous Armenia Gathering: 'Let Them Fine Me, What Will Happen is the State Budget Will Be Filled'

While various lawmakers are making Facebook posts and expressing their opinions, and the My Step faction is holding another meeting at the office of the Civil Contract Party, media attention has not missed Vardan Ghukasyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia faction. The meeting was held in accordance with the norms of the commandant’s office, with attendees sitting 1-2 meters apart, wearing masks, while Vardan Ghukasyan stood out by sitting without one.

In an interview with ArmDaily.am, Ghukasyan noted that the Prosperous Armenia Party has assessed that the current situation is deteriorating day by day. When asked about his opinion on the mandatory wearing of gloves and masks, Ghukasyan stated that if that is what the medical community believes, then they should wear them.

In response to the observation of why he was not wearing a mask at the Prosperous Armenia gathering yesterday, Ghukasyan explained: “Everyone was wearing masks that day, meaning there was no infectious person, thus I was not being infected. They were also wearing masks, so they wouldn't get infected either, so why should I wear one? Isn’t it better that I sit like this?”

When asked if he is not afraid of being fined, the lawmaker replied, “We have gone through so many things that, let them fine me once more, what will happen, the state budget will be filled.”
