Four-Year-Old Child Diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome Due to Kawasaki Syndrome at St. Astvatsamayr Medical Center

Recently, a four-year-old boy was admitted to the St. Astvatsamayr Medical Center, where he was found to be infected with COVID-19, but did not exhibit pronounced symptoms. After four days of treatment, the child was discharged from the hospital following two negative COVID-19 test results and returned home.

However, four days later, the child's temperature rose, and he was readmitted to the St. Astvatsamayr Medical Center in serious condition. The child was diagnosed with Kawasaki Syndrome (the first case). This information was reported on the hospital's Facebook page.

Three days later, the child exhibited severe stiffness in the neck muscles, developed rashes on the trunk, palms, face, and abdomen, along with swelling in the extremities and face, as well as fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity. Over eight days, a high fever was recorded in the child.

After receiving a negative result for coronavirus testing, the child was transferred to the intensive care unit. During this time, he also experienced colicky abdominal pain and diarrhea. A duodenal ulcer was identified.

Thanks to the treatment received at St. Astvatsamayr Medical Center, the child’s condition significantly improved. Considering the fact that the child suffered from damage to several organ systems during the illness, exhibited pronounced laboratory inflammatory markers, and had a previous COVID-19 infection, he was diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome according to WHO criteria.

Following the diagnosis, the child was transferred from St. Astvatsamayr Medical Center to Arabkir Medical Center for further treatment.

Reports have indicated that in several countries in Europe and North America, hundreds of children have experienced severe cases of an illness associated with COVID-19 infection. Symptoms of this disease include fever, skin rashes, swelling, bloodshot eyes, heart muscle dysfunction, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and more.
