Kawasaki Syndrome Reported in 4-Year-Old Child with Coronavirus in Armenia
Unfortunately, we have a reported case of Kawasaki syndrome in a 4-year-old child who had an asymptomatic coronavirus infection. This was announced by the Minister of Health of Armenia, Arsen Torosyan.
“Recently, there has been an increase in the incidence of children with Kawasaki syndrome in various countries, which some researchers have linked to the coronavirus pandemic. The exact etiology of Kawasaki syndrome is not fully understood; however, it is mainly associated with an autoimmune response triggered by infectious diseases. It generally occurs in children under 5 years of age.
Considering international statistics, we had preemptively reserved immunoglobulin medications specifically intended for the treatment of this syndrome. I hope the little one recovers quickly; doctors assess his condition as moderate. I urge everyone, both adults and children, to strictly follow anti-epidemic rules, to resist the temptation of close contact with each other during this time, to always wear masks, and to frequently wash or sanitize hands. It is necessary to limit all non-essential contacts with each other to break the chains of virus transmission,” Torosyan wrote.
