Water Accumulating in Turkish Territory Instead of Akhuryan Reservoir Filling Up

The newspaper "Zhamanak" reports: "Despite the rainy spring, the Akhuryan reservoir, which supplies irrigation water to the Ararat Plain, has accumulated 30 million cubic meters less water this year compared to last year.

The Akhuryan reservoir is fed by rivers from both Turkey and Armenia, and the water is shared between the two countries. However, last year a reservoir was built on the Kars River, which flows through Turkish territory, and instead of filling the Akhuryan reservoir, the water is accumulating in Turkey and is used solely by the Turks.

To save the Ararat Plain from ecological and economic disaster, Armenian authorities must take appropriate measures that, according to experts, already exist." More details can be found in today’s issue of the newspaper.
