Georgia's Foreign Minister Reaffirms Support for Armenia
On June 5, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a telephone conversation with Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani. The foreign ministers of Armenia and Georgia exchanged views on measures being taken at the national level to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus and address the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic.
The Georgian Foreign Minister expressed his solidarity with Armenia in the fight against the pandemic and reaffirmed the Georgian government's readiness to provide support.
Minister Mnatsakanyan praised the existing close cooperation at various levels of the Armenian and Georgian departments, practical periodic contacts, and mutual support in addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic, including the organization of the repatriation of Armenian and Georgian citizens through each other's territories.
Foreign Ministers Mnatsakanyan and Zalkaliani discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda. In this regard, Minister Mnatsakanyan emphasized the importance of expanding and deepening practical cooperation based on the age-old friendship and strategic interconnectedness between the two peoples, as outlined by the leaders of both countries during the Armenian Prime Minister's visit to Georgia in March.
Armenian Foreign Minister Mnatsakanyan reiterated his invitation to Foreign Minister Zalkaliani to visit Armenia.
Within the context of multilateral cooperation, the upcoming events under the Eastern Partnership framework were also addressed.
Foreign Ministers Mnatsakanyan and Zalkaliani exchanged views on security issues, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining international and regional peace and security during the pandemic.
