27-Year-Old Resident of Vanadzor Arrested for Producing, Storing, and Circulating Fake 20,000 Dram Notes

The investigation into a criminal case regarding the production, storage, and sale of counterfeit money by a 27-year-old resident of Vanadzor has been completed by the Lory Regional Investigation Department of the National Investigative Committee of Armenia. This information was provided by the Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

According to the data obtained during the investigation, on December 20, 2019, the 27-year-old resident learned from his girlfriend's underage son that an underage acquaintance of his was producing and selling banknotes using a computer and a printer for gambling purposes. The following day, he acquired three 20,000 dram nominal value banknotes from the boy for selling purposes. On that same day, in his apartment, he made alterations to those banknotes using cosmetic products to counterfeit the security features, thereby creating fake banknotes, which he began circulating in various retail outlets in Vanadzor between January 7 and 21, 2020.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained, charges have been filed against the 27-year-old resident of Vanadzor under the first part of Article 202 of the Armenian Criminal Code (producing, storing, or selling counterfeit money or securities). A detention measure has been selected for him. The pre-trial investigation has concluded, and the criminal case, along with a conclusion of charges, has been sent to the court.
