The Response from the Venice Commission is Expected in Mid-June

According to the "Past" newspaper, recent developments in the judicial sector indicate significant changes regarding the Constitutional Court of Armenia. Recently, due to the pandemic situation in the country, authorities have initiated a process to remove the seven judges of the Constitutional Court and replace them with their own affiliates, which has become a matter of life and death for them. To address this issue, they have appealed to the Venice Commission for its professional and authoritative opinion on how to resolve the crisis surrounding the Constitutional Court of Armenia.

Sources from the "Past" newspaper indicate that preliminary information suggests that the response from the Venice Commission may only be received around mid-June. The authorities have this time to formulate their further action plan and clarify their next steps.

Consequently, the authorities are currently working on finalizing all legal regulations related to this issue. At this stage, they are trying to prepare all the necessary tools so that they do not lose time after receiving the Venice Commission's response. However, many experts are puzzled that the authorities already proceeded to the first reading of a bill concerning the cancellation of the referendum without waiting for the conclusion, and later discussed it in the second reading.
