Registered Airlines in Armenia to Continue Flights to Other Countries: Civil Aviation Committee

Dear compatriots, we would like to inform you that on May 12 of this year, a meeting of the European Flight Safety Team was held. As a result of the observations made during the EU assessment visit in February of this year, a decision was made to include all aircraft operators registered in Armenia in the EU flight safety list. This means that the right of Armenian registered aircraft operators to perform flights to Europe will be limited (except for repatriation, humanitarian, and medical flights). This is stated in a statement from the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee.

“Airlines registered in Armenia will continue to operate flights to other countries. Additionally, this decision will not affect the flights operated by other international airlines from the EU to Armenia and from Armenia to the EU.”

According to the European Commission and the EU Flight Safety Committee, the reason for including Armenian aircraft operators in the EU flight safety list is the improper oversight by the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia and the incomplete execution of certification functions over many years. Since the meeting of the European Flight Safety Team on November 20, 2019, the Civil Aviation Committee has taken significant steps and is continuing to implement necessary measures to enhance the level of flight safety in Armenia.

Philippe Cornelis, the Director of Aviation at the EU, noted in a letter to the head of the Civil Aviation Committee: “I was pleased to see and record the commitment of the Armenian government to support the Civil Aviation Committee. That support, along with your professional skills and expertise, plays a significant role in addressing these issues.”

Meanwhile, EU Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean stated on the official EU website: “The European Commission, with the support of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, is ready to cooperate and contribute to improving the level of flight safety in Armenia.” Aviation authorities from EU member states have also expressed their willingness to work closely with the Civil Aviation Committee.

Dear compatriots, rest assured that through our joint efforts, all issues will be resolved.
