Spain to Extend State of Emergency Until June 21
Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced that he will seek parliamentary approval to extend the state of emergency until June 21, after which the government will no longer restrict citizens' movement, according to Reuters.
During a video conference, Sanchez informed regional government leaders that this will be the last restriction implemented in Spain due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As of Saturday, Spain's death toll from the coronavirus has reached 27,125, with 239,229 confirmed cases of infection. Spain is one of the countries most severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic worldwide.
The strict state of emergency was established in the kingdom on March 14. During this period, residents were only allowed to leave their homes for essential purchases, and children were generally prohibited from leaving home. Only recently have the restrictions been gradually eased.
