And Now, Universal Tax Declaration: Haik Martirosyan

Political scientist Haik Martirosyan made a post on his Facebook page regarding the Prime Minister's statement about the universal tax declaration. He particularly noted that this imposes a tax burden on the poorest, underprivileged, and middle class individuals who barely secure income from various sources. Below is Martirosyan's post:

“And now, universal tax declaration: Approximately, modeled after America, where taxes are levied on ordinary citizens and those with low to middle incomes, while multi-billion dollar corporations often pay little to nothing to the budget. In Armenia, it might be slightly different, but the logic remains the same. The tax burden is also being placed on the poorest, underprivileged, and middle class, who can barely secure income from various sources. And this burden is significant for the disadvantaged class. Just days ago, it was the universal and rising property tax; today, with the Prime Minister's announcement on the introduction of universal income taxes, it has shifted.”

“Veiled under beautiful lies is a simple reality: Unable and also unwilling to recover what was stolen previously, likely resorting to state corruption-like transactions with oligarchs and former regime’s plunderers - multi-millionaires or billionaires, resulting in them retaining the majority of their stolen wealth, this government is now attempting to fill the budget by financially exploiting the entire society. And the Prime Minister sells this to the public under false descriptions such as ‘attitude towards the state, responsibility, participation,’ and so forth.”

“In reality, this ignorant and provincial libertarian government (which is based on the philosophy of so-called liberal freedom to give people freedom, while being criminal and exploitative) is maturing new social discontent every day, which will explode in their faces. And rightly so. The sooner this incompetent group in power is removed, the better.”

“However, we must be vigilant to not let the former ones take advantage of this. The first and sole responsible entity for the threat of the return of the former regime is the current government. It is in today’s government's interest to facilitate the political activities of the former ones, threatening its own people with the alternatives of the past while trying to prove its own irreplaceability.”

“Thus, whether they leave or stay, the threat of the former ones will always exist as long as clean national-democratic forces have not come to power.”
