Increase in Severe Cases Reported by Director of St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center

Since April 2, St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center has been re-profiled as a hospital for the treatment of patients with new coronavirus infections and is currently the largest in terms of bed capacity. This was stated today at a press conference held at the government by the center's director, Arman Hovakimyan.

According to him, there are about 500 beds available, of which 80 are in the intensive care unit, while 420 are in general departments. "Today, the intensive care unit is 95 percent occupied and about 80 percent of the general departments are also occupied. Up until now, St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center has admitted approximately 1,470 patients with new coronavirus infections, of which 450 were in severe and critical condition. Moreover, the critically ill patients require intensive care services, which are under significant demand these days," Hovakimyan said.

The director of the medical center added, "In recent days, there has been an increase in the number of critically severe cases, so we ask everyone to adhere to the regulations set by the authorities."

On May 29, a new record of infected cases was registered in Armenia, with 460 confirmed cases in one day. The previous highest figures were recorded on May 24 with 452 cases, and on May 27 with 442 cases. Thus, the total number of infected individuals has reached 8,676.

According to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Armenia, in one day, 7 people have died due to the coronavirus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 120. Additionally, there was one death of a patient infected with coronavirus from another disease. As of May 29, the total number of such cases has reached 45. Overall, 8 people died in one day, raising the total death toll to 165.
