Attack on Armenian Church Unacceptable, Says Turkey's Justice Minister
Turkey's Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul has condemned the attack on the St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in the Kuzguncuk neighborhood of Istanbul, which was carried out on racist grounds. This was reported by Ermenihaber.
Gul made the following statement on Twitter regarding the issue: “I condemn the attack on the Armenian church in Kuzguncuk. Respect for the sanctities of others is one of our basic principles. Such actions are never acceptable in a rule of law.”
It is reminded that on May 23, an unidentified individual violently removed the cross from the church's entrance gates and threw it onto the sidewalk. In connection with the incident, the church leadership issued a statement stating that a complaint had been filed with the police regarding the attack, and a new cross has been placed in place of the one that was removed.
It should be noted that just weeks ago, a Turkish citizen attempted to set fire to the door of the Armenian Nativity of the Holy Mother of God Church located in the Zeytinlik neighborhood of the Bakırköy district of Istanbul.
