Minister Arsen Torosyan Apologizes to Tbilisi via Diplomatic Channels

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani, has announced that the Armenian Ministry of Health has conveyed its regrets to official Tbilisi through diplomatic channels regarding the comments made by Minister Arsen Torosyan related to the anti-epidemic system in Georgia's fight against COVID-19.

“The Armenian Ministry of Health called the Georgian embassy in Yerevan and expressed regret that, according to them, the minister's statements, which they believe were misinterpreted, upset their Georgian counterparts. They expressed their regrets and requested to convey their position to Tbilisi,” Zalkaliani told reporters.

According to the head of Georgia's foreign affairs agency, after Torosyan’s comments were published in the media, the Georgian embassy immediately contacted the Armenian side. “Of course, that comment was not correct towards a neighboring, friendly country, especially when made by a health minister,” Zalkaliani added.

It is worth noting that Arsen Torosyan had admitted yesterday during a meeting of the Public Council that the restrictions imposed in Georgia, which are still in place, were more effective, strong, and strict. However, he questioned the methodology of counting infections, stating that Armenia's anti-epidemic system is better than that of the neighboring country.
