If the Number of Infections Remains Between 300 and 400 Daily, It’s Already Good: Pulmonologist
If the number of infections continues to remain between 300 and 400 daily, that’s already good. This was stated by pulmonologist Ashot Yeghoyan in an interview with Tert.am while discussing the increase in coronavirus figures.
Commenting on the Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan's statement that there might be a transition to deep sorting, the pulmonologist noted, “There is such a thing – the truth can be bitter, and people always want to be deceived. In other words, that is true. The virus has a biological cycle worldwide; a lot depends on us, of course, but we are not the nation that approaches this very seriously. The public has become a bit more serious now, and that helps to contain it, but all countries are going through this phase.”
Explaining what deep sorting entails, Ashot Yeghoyan said it means that those individuals with very little chance of survival will not receive mechanical treatment, while such treatment will be given to younger individuals.
In response to the remark that other patients should be left to die this way, he replied, “This is the case all over the world. There are very profound professional questions involved in this; God forbid we reach a point where we set aside an 80-year-old person and do not treat him because he will die anyway. But this is in extreme cases, referring to when the situation becomes critical and the number of carriers and severely ill individuals increases.”
According to him, just a week ago, he predicted that the number of infections would reach 400-500 because we are living without quarantine. “And as a result, the number of severely ill and critically ill patients is also increasing, while the state’s capacities are not limitless.”
When asked when we would reach the peak, he mentioned, “I cannot say; I hope that we are at the peak now.”
