Stabbing Incident in Arzni Village: Suspected Criminal Has Fled the Scene

On May 18, 2020, at 10:40 PM, the Abovyan Medical Center reported that a resident of Arzni village had come in for medical assistance with a diagnosis of a "stab wound to the anterior abdominal wall," as per the information released by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

The victim stated that he had been stabbed near a gas station on Tbilisi Highway in Yerevan. A criminal case has been initiated by the Kotayk Division of the Armenian Police under Article 112, Part 2, Clause 9 of the RA Criminal Code (causing serious harm to health with hooligan intent), with the preliminary investigation being carried out by the Abovyan Investigative Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigative Department.

Immediate investigative actions have determined that the resident of Arzni village sustained the injury around 9:30 PM on May 18, 2020, during an altercation with a fellow villager in the yard of one of the houses in Arzni village. The assailant, a 52-year-old man, struck the victim with a cutting/piercing tool, causing him severe bodily harm, and then fled the scene.

During the examination of the crime scene, traces of blood were found and collected, several individuals have been interviewed, and relevant examinations have been ordered. Measures are being taken to locate the individual suspected of committing the crime and present him to the prosecuting authority. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Note: The individual suspected or accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the established procedure of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, by a court decision that has entered into legal force.
