Scandal in Turkey: Mosques Played Italian 'Bella Ciao' Instead of Azan

WRed

On May 20, in several mosques in the Turkish city of Izmir, the well-known Italian folk song 'Bella ciao' (translated: 'Goodbye, Beautiful') was played instead of the azan (call to prayer). This incident has sparked a wave of hysteria among fervent Muslim circles and in the Turkish media, becoming a topic of discussion on social media.

However, contrary to the negative reactions, many social media users have shared video recordings on their pages, praising the individuals involved in the incident.

In connection with the incident, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of Izmir has launched an investigation against the individuals who played the song, as well as users of social media who supported them. The aforementioned individuals are accused of 'violating religious values.'

It is noteworthy that the incident occurred during the Islamic month of Ramadan.
