If artificial political persecutions do not cease, I will consider it pointless to continue managing the federation. Arthur Gevorgyan

The president of the Boxing Federation of Armenia, Arthur Gevorgyan, announced on his Facebook status that he will resign from his position in the near future if the ongoing processes against him do not stop.

“Dear representatives of the boxing world and sports enthusiasts, I want to inform you about the recent events and actions surrounding me. It is undeniable that the actions taken against me should not harm any athlete or coach. Therefore, I consider it my duty to present you with some details of the created situation.

And so... The state provides the federation with a subsidy of 110 million drams per year, which we are exclusively authorized to spend on organizing and participating in nationwide, international, and official competitions. Coaches, athletes, and federation employees have never been rewarded from this amount. This has always been done through sponsors and mainly from my personal funds.

As a result of the vile, incompetent, monopolistic policy pursued by the authorities, I am currently facing unlawful criminal prosecution, and all my personal accounts have been intentionally blocked, with my property being under arrest, while companies collaborating with the federation are withdrawing and ceasing their cooperation with fear. As a result, dozens of coaches and athletes, who have continuously been under my moral and financial support for years, are now facing a complex problem.

If these ridiculous, fabricated political persecutions do not cease in the coming days, I will consider it pointless to continue managing the federation. I will cease my work as president of the federation, and a temporary acting president will be appointed, who will organize new presidential elections in accordance with the law and regulations.

I would particularly like to mention that the rewards promised by me to athletes and their coaches, who achieved significant results in international competitions during 2019, will remain in effect under any circumstances and will be executed upon my return to Armenia.

I will always continue to stand beside my beloved sport with all my connections and available opportunities. In the near future, I will certainly present all the achievements in boxing during my tenure over the past seven years, which have truly been unprecedented. Until then, let us wait for the developments... ”
