The Victims of the Tragic Fire in Lusaghbyur are a Bride and Mother-in-Law
In a tragic fire that occurred in Lusaghbyur, Shirak Province on May 19, the deceased women are identified as a bride and her mother-in-law. Melk Manukyan, the administrative head of Lusaghbyur, told NEWS.am that all other family members are currently in the Russian Federation.
“The grandmother's son and three grandsons are also in Russia. One of them went there a few months ago, the others are there for seasonal work,” the village head noted.
The exact cause of the fire is still unclear according to the village chief. “It’s most likely related to the stove, because up until this last day, neighbors reported seeing smoke coming out. Additionally, the grandson changed the wiring two months ago, so it’s less likely to be from electricity,” he added.
Due to the wooden and old structure of the house, the fire spread very quickly; by the time neighbors noticed and arrived to help, the house had collapsed. “We could hear the grandmother's voice; she was asking for help. By the time we broke the bars off the windows, the ceiling collapsed, and the voice was cut off. The bride likely suffocated on the spot because we found her body in bed only after searching for a long time in the morning. The grandmother had even changed rooms to the opposite side of the fire and was calling for help,” the village chief recounted.
Due to the presence of wind, the fire spread to the neighboring houses, with the roof of one of them catching fire, and family members were able to be rescued through a window.
The village chief mentioned that family members face difficulties in returning from Russia, with one of the grandsons set to return today, while the others are currently unable to come back.
