Sasun Khachatryan to Receive New Position
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that according to its sources, the head of the Special Investigative Service, Sasun Khachatryan, is set to receive a new position in the near future. Information obtained from law enforcement suggests that following the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Committee, he will be appointed as the chairman of that body.
Initially, the creation of this committee implied the dissolution of the SIS, with all its functions being transferred to the new committee. However, at the last minute, a decision was made to retain the SIS, albeit with limited powers.
As a result, the newly formed Anti-Corruption Committee will serve as the sole body for detecting and investigating corruption-related crimes, which will be established in 2021. According to this plan, there will be three investigative bodies: the Investigative Committee, the Special Investigative Service (SIS), which will handle torture-related cases and potential criminal offenses committed by officials of the Anti-Corruption Committee, and the Anti-Corruption Committee, which will be the primary specialized body for investigating corruption offenses.
Thus, according to information from "Zhoghovurd", Sasun Khachatryan will take up the position of chairman of this committee in 2021. We reached out to the SIS for comments, but they stated, "We do not wish to comment on rumors." For more details, refer to today’s issue of the newspaper.
