The Number of Conspiracy Theorists is Increasing, Warns Torosyan

The Minister of Health of Armenia, Arsen Torosyan, has made a post on his Facebook page, indicating that alongside the increase in cases of the coronavirus infection, the number of believers in conspiracy theories is also rising.

“This fact worries us because people may lose their vigilance regarding the disease. And that means we could see more cases in the future.

Expressions like ‘They are definitely going to implant chips in us’, ‘Such a disease does not exist’, ‘It won’t affect us’, ‘It’s a global bluff’, ‘Everything is a lie’, and ‘It is for receiving funding from abroad’, are frequently found among individual users’ posts, who also leave ‘opinions’ in the comments of articles published by the media. Such opinions are widely covered by the media as well.

We do not want our population to lose vigilance, and if this trend continues, we will be forced to pass on the details of those spreading false and unfounded news to law enforcement agencies—first, to understand who is behind them and what motives they have to harm our citizens.

Considering the statistics of recent days, we urge our compatriots to be more cautious, to follow all guidelines to stop the spread of the disease, and we also call on you to follow official news sources as a reliable source of information,” reads the minister's post.
