Hraparak: State of Emergency to be Extended
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that the government is likely to extend the state of emergency on May 14. The decision was made yesterday, although it has not yet been officially announced.
The main reason is political—specifically regarding the constitutional referendum, the solution for which the ruling team has yet to find. Once the state of emergency is lifted, according to the law, the postponed referendum must be held within 50 to 65 days. However, authorities face a dilemma: on one hand, the spread of the pandemic is intensifying, and conducting the referendum could endanger the health of thousands of people. On the other hand, there are concerns that if the referendum is held now, it could be even more likely to fail. Therefore, they plan to extend the state of emergency for another month, hoping to find a way out of the situation.
