Police Withholding 3000, 5000, and 10,000 Dram Contributions for Coronavirus Response

The police are withholding 5000 dram contributions from their officers without their consent, directing these funds towards an account set up for combating and overcoming the coronavirus pandemic. According to a source from LURER.com, although Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has instructed that only contributions from high-ranking officials be collected, funds are also being withheld from those working in the intermediate ranks.

It is noteworthy that during these days, police officers are working under significant strain and emergency conditions, and in fact, in addition to providing professional assistance, they are also offering financial support.

To gain clarification on this matter, the media spoke with the head of the Public Relations and Information Department of the Armenian Police, Ashot Aharonyan. He stated that a total of 33 million 200 thousand dram has been transferred from the police to the treasury for fighting the coronavirus. According to him, this amount has been generated from voluntary contributions made by officers.

“The regular staff could not participate in this collection even if they had a strong desire to do so because the leadership stated that they would not participate. As for the amounts given by the officer ranks, they determined the amount themselves; some contributed 3000, others 5000, and some gave 10,000 dram,” he said.
