‘Hayatsk’ Investigates: Did Serzh Sargsyan Lie?
‘Hayatsk’ newspaper reports: As previously mentioned by ‘Hayatsk’, a regular session of the National Assembly’s investigative committee examining the circumstances of the April 2016 war was held yesterday. We noted that they would hear from representatives of the Armed Forces before the committee’s term expires. Yesterday, former Minister of Defense and Minister of Emergency Situations Levon Mnatsakanyan participated in the closed-door meeting.
It is worth mentioning that after the meeting, Mnatsakanyan stated in an interview with journalists that, according to their calculations, the Armenian side lost up to 400 hectares during the April war. You may recall that after the April war, former President Serzh Sargsyan had talked about a loss of 800 hectares, but recently revised his statement to declare a loss of 400 hectares.
According to information from ‘Hayatsk’, this issue was one of the main topics during the meeting, and the committee members were eager to hear from the former minister regarding the true extent of the losses and whether Sargsyan was lying. Furthermore, the questions directed at Mnatsakanyan were mainly those which should have been posed to the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Yuri Khachaturov, but the committee was unable to secure his presence.
This time, the session of the April investigative committee was relatively short compared to the one held during Serzh Sargsyan’s tenure, yet it was still quite active, with each parliament member posing several questions to the former minister. According to ‘Hayatsk’, Mnatsakanyan predominantly recounted details similar to those stated in the famous film produced by the 5th TV channel.
It is important to note that the committee's work will conclude soon, and they plan to hear from three more representatives of the Armed Forces before finishing. There is also a possibility that the President of Artsakh, Bako Sahakyan, will be invited.
