Live Broadcast of Candlelight Vigil and Service from Antelias Monastery in Lebanon

Commemorative events have taken place in Lebanon in connection with the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. On April 23, President Michel Aoun issued a special statement, characterizing the genocide against the Armenian people as a stain on human consciousness that constantly reminds us that crimes against humanity will endure as long as they remain unpunished.

Numerous events dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide were organized jointly by various Armenian communities and political-social organizations. The Armenian Embassy in Lebanon reported on these activities.

Specifically, a universal candlelight vigil was organized in the capital, starting on the evening of April 23 from the city hall square of the Armenian-populated Bourj Hammoud. A special convoy of recording vehicles passed through the Armenian neighborhoods, visiting the Armenian Embassy and then the Catholicosate of Cilicia.

On April 24, a memorial service took place at the Antelias Monastery, attended only by 105 representatives of the community, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony. Both the candlelight vigil and the memorial service were broadcast live on local Lebanese television and via the internet channel of the Catholicosate of Cilicia.

In connection with the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the renowned Lebanese newspaper L’Orient-le-jour published an article by the President of Armenia titled “We Cannot Forget the Armenian Genocide.” Several Lebanese state, civic, and political figures also expressed messages of respect and remembrance for the victims of the genocide.
