French Prime Minister's Letter to Nikol Pashinyan

Every year, President Emmanuel Macron sends a letter to Armenia's President Armen Sarkissian in connection with the Armenian Genocide Memorial Day on April 24. Prime Minister Édouard Philippe has also sent a letter to Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This was reported by Jonathan Lacôte, the Ambassador of France to Armenia, on his Facebook page.

In Édouard Philippe's letter, it is stated, “On April 24 of this year, France will commemorate the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The health crisis caused by the ongoing pandemic could not overshadow this important struggle for justice and historical truth. On the contrary, it calls us to the solidarity that has always been at the foundation of the relations between our two countries and to a commitment that sometimes leads to sacrifice for the sake of all.”

“Once again, I wish to unite the voice of France with those who tirelessly demand the recognition of the suffering of an entire people. As Anatole France remarked on this occasion: ‘The blood of the martyrs is not shed in vain; a power is with you, scattered yet strong.’ Rest assured that both my government and I are fully mobilized to strengthen the relations between our two countries.”

Please accept, dear Prime Minister, my highest assurance of respect.”
