New Bill: Up to 1 Year Imprisonment for Cruel Treatment of Animals

The newspaper "Zhamanak" reports that Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Lena Nazaryan and MP Mari Galstyan have presented a bill on "Responsible Treatment of Animals." The proposed legislation seeks to prohibit cruel treatment of animals, including methods such as suffocating, hanging, dismembering, striking with force, whipping, shooting with firearms, and other similar means, as well as skinning, amputating alive, throwing an animal into fire, dropping from heights or vehicles, and organizing and conducting animal fights.

The authors of the bill also propose amendments to the criminal code to entail imprisonment of up to 1 year for such acts.

More details can be found in today’s edition of the newspaper.
