National Geographic Publishes Article on Historic Ani and Armenian Identity

National Geographic has published an article dedicated to the ancient Armenian city of Ani, whose ruins are now located in Turkey. The magazine notes that Ani thrived in the medieval period, becoming the capital of Armenia. It was known as the city of a thousand and one churches and was home to 100,000 people.

“The medieval kingdom of Armenia extended beyond the borders of present-day Armenia. In ancient times, these lands came under the dominion of Persians, Seleucids, and Romans. But regardless of how these empires rose and fell, Armenian identity was preserved,” the article states.
