Currently Working on Establishing a Mortuary for COVID-19 Victims, Says Torosyan
A separate mortuary for the autopsy of those who have died from the coronavirus may be established in Armenia in the future. This was stated today, April 10, in response to reporters' questions by Health Minister Arsen Torosyan.
“We are currently working on having a mortuary where, if necessary, we can carry out autopsies on such patients,” the minister said.
Torosyan indicated that until the mortuary's construction is completed, Armenia has refrained from conducting autopsies on those who died from the coronavirus, following the recommendations of international professional organizations.
“Until the relevant law is passed, autopsies on such individuals have not been performed in Armenia to avoid endangering staff without having a specialized infectious disease-compliant mortuary,” Torosyan noted.
Nevertheless, the minister did not deny that there have been cases where the presence of the coronavirus was confirmed during the autopsy of the deceased.
In response to several media reports about cases where the presence of the coronavirus was suspected in the deaths of some citizens, Arsen Torosyan stated that it is very difficult to determine whether the cause of death was indeed the coronavirus or their underlying health issues.
