Young Man Isolated After Assisting Infected Passenger from Crashed Ambulance
It was reported that an ambulance carrying a citizen infected with coronavirus was involved in an accident in Yerevan yesterday. A video of the accident was also provided to Auroranews.am by Facebook user Tigran Mazmanyan. He also informed us that the ambulance was transporting a person infected with coronavirus. The cause of the accident is unknown; however, the first to assist the injured citizen was another bystander, who helped until the arrival of medical personnel. After being informed that the injured person was being taken to the hospital under suspicion of coronavirus, the assisting citizen was asked to undergo testing.
Armen Ayvazyan, who provided assistance, told NewMedia.am that after 20 days of self-isolation at home, he decided to go out for a walk and witnessed the accident during that time. “When I heard the sound of the accident, I ran over. The person had gotten out of the vehicle; I tried to help. I sat him down to the side. Then he yelled for me to stay away... I didn’t understand what he was talking about, why I should stay away,” Armen recounted.
The young man noted that the patient had injured his leg and was approximately a 40-year-old man. “The driver had gotten out of the car holding his head; he was in shock. After I provided assistance, I left the scene and was about 200 meters away when I realized what had happened; that person was infected,” he said.
Armen himself called the hotline and explained the situation. “They told me to return. By that time, other ambulances had already arrived. I was taken to the ‘Nork’ infectious disease hospital, waited for half an hour, and was isolated at the ‘Imperial’ hotel. I will be tested in 14 days,” he elaborated.
Armen joked, “Nothing could have been more absurd than what happened to me.” Wishing a speedy recovery to everyone!
