Kocharian Transferred from Hospital to Yerevan-Center Penitentiary

After receiving inpatient treatment at the "Erebuni" Medical Center, Armenia's second President Robert Kocharian has been transferred to the Yerevan-Center penitentiary this morning. This information comes from a statement released by Kocharian's defense team.

“Doctors have recorded dynamics in his health condition; however, they have noted that Robert Kocharian currently requires constant medical supervision and further treatment. The legal team is discussing the advisability of transferring Robert Kocharian to a penitentiary in light of the current epidemic situation and concerns regarding his health security. There is also a need to review medical documentation,” the statement reads.

It is already known that there are confirmed cases of coronavirus infection within the penitentiary system, and tests are not being conducted sufficiently. Given this, the lawyers believe that, under such conditions, Robert Kocharian's health status does not allow for him to be held in the penitentiary, where staff have yet to undergo coronavirus testing.

It should be emphasized that the legal team will not disclose detailed information regarding Robert Kocharian's health status, such as medical conclusions or treatments received, as this is highly personal information and a medical secret,” the message states.
