Australian MP Congratulates Artsakh Residents and Ends Up on Azerbaijan's 'Black List'
Hugh McDermott, a member of the New South Wales Parliament in Australia, found himself on Azerbaijan's so-called 'black list' after congratulating the people of Artsakh regarding their presidential elections.
"I congratulate the residents of the Republic of Artsakh, who held their presidential elections this week. Over 72% of voters cast their ballots and exercised their democratic rights. I wish success to the candidates in the second round on April 14," McDermott wrote on his Twitter page.
"It’s wonderful to see democracy thriving in a region plagued by authoritarian regimes and dictatorships. Congratulations to the free people of Artsakh,” he later personally noted, announcing that he had been placed on the 'black list.'
“What an honor,” he responded to Azerbaijan's move by sharing a link to the complete list.
