ODC Expresses Concern Over Injury of Armenian Soldiers and Civilian in Tavush: Stanislav Zas

Stanislav Zas, the Secretary General of the CSTO, has expressed concern regarding the incident that occurred on March 30 at the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to Armenpress, Zas noted that it is puzzling that tensions have escalated at a time when the global community is united in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

When asked how he interprets Azerbaijan's provocative actions against a CSTO member state, Zas stated that he had been informed from the Armenian side about the incident at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. He emphasized, “The fact that two servicemen and a resident born in 2004 from Voskevan were injured causes great concern. At the same time, I want to express my worry regarding such incidents within the CSTO responsibility zone, near the borders of a member state.”

Zas called for the involved parties to heed the UN Secretary-General's appeals for a global ceasefire amidst the pandemic. “As far as I know, Armenia has officially supported this call. I would also like to emphasize the importance of implementing agreements reached by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan concerning the cessation of hostilities in the conflict zone, and I wish a speedy recovery to those affected by the incident,” he said.

It is worth recalling that on March 30, the Azerbaijani side attempted a sabotage infiltration towards the Armenian positions in the Tavush region of the Noyemberyan district. The adversary was repelled; however, the villages of Baghanis and Voskevan were targeted during the confrontation.
