Special Document Required for Going to Work in Two Days, Avinyan

Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan was reminded today that in Georgia, where the number of confirmed coronavirus cases is several times lower than in Armenia, a curfew has been implemented. When asked whether Armenia intends to take similar measures, Avinyan responded that the logic of curfew assumes human gatherings at certain times in various shops and supermarkets.

“We have previously discussed and realized that this increases the risk of virus transmission. We can modify some of the mechanisms by which individuals gain the right to move within the country, particularly, those going to work will need to have a document with them in about two days that proves they must go to a specific place for work. This means it should be issued by the relevant economic operator or the appropriate public authority, confirming that this person works here and must report to work,” he said.

Avinyan announced that measures will be put in place to tighten restrictions on people's movement. Overall, regarding the efficacy of the implemented measures, the deputy prime minister noted, “On Sunday, we had an exceptional decrease in the number of movements. It was close to the numbers observed in Italy. Public transport usage has decreased 30 times compared to before, but it should be acknowledged that human movements are still occurring.”
