US President Donald Trump has announced that he is considering the possibility of imposing a quarantine in New York to slow the spread of coronavirus, according to BBC News. In turn, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated that he has not discussed this matter with the President.
“I have not talked to him about any quarantine. We haven’t had that conversation. I don’t even know what that means,” Cuomo noted.
A journalist from the New York Post conducted a unique analysis and found that in the past two days, one patient has died every 17 minutes in New York, diagnosed with “pneumonia caused by the coronavirus.”
According to information released by the Illinois Department of Public Health, coronavirus has claimed the life of a child in Chicago. “This is the first death of a child under one year old in the US due to coronavirus. The cause of death is under investigation,” said the department head, Ngozi Ezike. She noted that over 85% of coronavirus deaths in Illinois are among citizens aged 60 and older.
According to the latest data, there are 124,665 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the US, with 2,191 deaths and 1,095 recoveries. Following the US, Italy ranks second with 92,472 cases, China with 82,057, and Spain with 73,275.
As for the fatalities, Italy still holds the highest number, where coronavirus has already killed 10,023 people. Spain follows with 5,982 deaths, China with 3,304, and Iran with 2,517.
