H1N1 Subtype of Influenza A and Influenza B Pathogens Circulating in Artsakh
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Artsakh reports that the monitoring of acute respiratory infections by the ministry's medical institutions continues. Currently, the number of visits to outpatient polyclinic organizations stands at 85, of which 36 or 42% are children aged 0-18. The number of patients receiving inpatient treatment is 32, with 22 or 68.8% being children aged 0-18. As of March 26, 2019, the outpatient visits totaled 121, with 104 (86%) of those being children aged 0-18. There were 59 patients in inpatient treatment, 37 of whom (63%) were also children aged 0-18.
Epidemiological analysis results indicate a decrease in both inpatient and outpatient visits compared to the same time period in 2019. In February 2020, there were a recorded 4,948 cases of acute upper respiratory infections, of which 3,795 were children aged 0-18. In February 2019, there were 3,447 cases of acute upper respiratory infections, with 2,956 being children aged 0-18. This marks an increase of 1,501 cases, including 839 among children aged 0-18.
Laboratory research results have confirmed that the H1N1 subtype of Influenza A and Influenza B pathogens are circulating in the republic. In order to avoid acute respiratory infections and complications following influenza, the Ministry of Health once again reminds and urges:
- Avoid contact with patients showing flu-like symptoms;
- If you are ill, stay at home and ensure to consult a doctor for advice and treatment;
- If you are ill, call your local pediatrician, therapist, or family doctor, and do not self-medicate;
- Do not use antibiotics, as they are not indicated for the treatment of influenza and acute respiratory infections;
- Dress according to the weather;
- Follow coughing and sneezing etiquette;
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids;
- Ventilate enclosed spaces frequently;
- Follow personal hygiene guidelines.
