Man Who Invaded Erebuni Plaza Declared Insane

The 32-year-old Arthur Torosyan, who invaded the Erebuni Plaza business center and opened fire, has been declared insane. This was stated by his lawyer Eduard Aghajanyan in response to a question from Armenian Jamanak.

According to Aghajanyan, Torosyan has been diagnosed with schizophrenia-paranoia, which has led the prosecutorial body to submit a request to the court to change the preventive measure against him and to apply safety measures accordingly.

Under the chairmanship of Judge Vahagn Melikyan, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction annulled the arrest as a preventive measure and implemented safety measures; Torosyan has been transferred to the Nubarashen Psychiatric Institution.

Details can be found in the original source. It is noteworthy that on January 23 at 14:40, the police received reports of an armed individual in the Erebuni Plaza hotel, who was firing shots. Immediately, the police leadership and operational groups arrived at the scene.

Under the leadership of acting Police Chief Arman Sargsyan, negotiations were conducted with the armed man, after which he surrendered his weapon. The man, born in 1987, was arrested.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident at Erebuni Plaza under clauses 2, 3, and 7 of part 2 of Article 218, part 1 of Article 235, and part 1 of Article 185 of the Republic of Armenia Criminal Code.
