First Death from Hantavirus Recorded in China
A case of death due to hantavirus has been recorded in Yunnan province, China. This was reported by Global Times on their Twitter page.
It is reported that a resident of Yunnan province died while on public transport heading to Shandong. Doctors have checked all passengers who were on the same bus. Currently, there are no reports of other infected individuals.
"This is the first recorded case of death from hantavirus," the report states.
The symptoms of hantavirus are similar to those of many respiratory illnesses, including headaches, fatigue, coughing, gastrointestinal issues, and vomiting. There is currently no treatment or vaccine available for hantavirus.
The orthohantavirus, or hantavirus, is primarily transmitted through rodents. Following the news of the death of the individual, many doctors rushed to reassure the public that this is not a case of a "second coronavirus."
Experts have assured the public that this is not a new virus, and it is believed that, unlike Covid-19, it is transmitted from person to person only in rare cases.
Swedish scientist Dr. Sumaya Shaikh wrote on her Twitter page, "This virus first emerged in the 1950s in Korea during the Korean War. It is transmitted through rats and mice. Please do not panic unless you plan on eating a rat."
