The People Have the Right to be Governed Properly, and This is Executed by the National Assembly, Which Must Work During These Days - Petrosyan
In general, sharing Mr. Marukyan's concerns, I have to agree with the Speaker of the National Assembly that life continues, and the people are waiting for us. Can you imagine if we also say we have nothing to do and go home? Who will the people be waiting for then?
This was stated by Gevorg Petrosyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia faction, addressing the proposal of LHK faction leader Edmon Marukyan to postpone the National Assembly sessions that are not related to the state of emergency.
"Ultimately, this is an important body in a parliamentary state. True, it is an extraordinary situation, there are dangers, but the people expect decisions from this body. It's another matter to reach internal agreements and consider the absence of those who do not come to work due to health reasons as respectful. But today, if we sit at home, to whom will the people turn? That’s why I support Mr. Mirzoyan's viewpoint that we must work," he emphasized.
According to him, if the National Assembly does not operate in a parliamentary state, it is the end of that state. "And we should not think about the end of our state at all. I call on my esteemed colleagues to continue our work. Otherwise, can you imagine if we need to make changes to the family code regarding child support payments for a child without a permanent caregiver, and we say it’s an emergency situation, we are not holding a session? Life continues, we must participate in life, especially the parliamentarians should work within the limits of their health capabilities," he stated.
