VIDEO: Tavush Police Uncover Illegal Logging Incidents
On March 20, the Tavush Division of Police acted on received information and apprehended an unregistered "UAZ" vehicle in the administrative territory of the Varagavan community. It turned out that a 25-year-old driver, a resident of the community, had cut down two beech trees in an area known as "Khutsh Posh" with his brother. However, they had not managed to transport the wood, as the police caught them in the act.
The timber was handed over to the Artsvaberd Forestry. A professional examination has been initiated.
Another case of illegal logging was uncovered on March 21 on the Berd-Jambrak road. Police inspected an unregistered "UAZ" vehicle loaded with timber belonging to a 25-year-old resident of the Tutujur village in Gegharkunik Province. The driver stated that the hardwood had been acquired from the territory of the Artsvaberd Forestry and did not present any documents confirming the legality of the firewood.
The vehicle, along with the timber, has been moved to a specially secured area of the division. The circumstances are being clarified.
